Desire: Foodie

Oil on Canvas 30" x 24

Started in 2011, My current work examines the idea of desire in contemporary culture.

Socrates argued that individual desires must be postponed in the name of the higher ideal.

Buddhism teaches that craving is thought to be the cause of all suffering.

Aristotle argued that desire must be tempered by reason to be good.

My work tries to reconcile the irrational verses rational forms of desire by exploring

the conflict between the unconscious and selfish and the deliberate and purposeful impulses.

I propose that desire is the motivating force behind all of man's activities

and when used positively is the source of all of our great achievements.
